Is your business considering Cyber Essentials? Timewade

Did you know that the Government led Cyber Essentials scheme has been running for over 4 years? Launched on 4 June 2014, Cyber Essentials is still, if not more relevant for organisations large and small to demonstrate that they take Cyber Security seriously by becoming Cyber Essentials certified. By doing so they will also show their commitment to ensuring their customer and supplier data is protected against Cyber Attacks.

What is Cyber Essentials?

With cyber threats constantly evolving,  the Government backed/ industry supported Cyber Essentials scheme aims to make the UK a safer place to conduct business online, with essential protection against the most common online threats.

There are two levels of certifications, firstly Cyber Essentials, which is an independently verified self-assessment questionnaire, which addresses the most common internet based threats and Cyber Security and focuses on 5 technical control areas, including:

  • Firewalls
  • Secure Configuration
  • User access control
  • Malware protection
  • Patch Management

Being certified with Cyber Essentials means that you can prevent around 80% of basic cyber-attacks and once your organisation is certified, it is recommended that you continue to recertify each year.

Cyber Essentials, whilst giving you a clear picture of your current cyber security, also provides organisations with other benefits; such as helping towards GDPR compliance, enabling your business to bid for Government/MOD contracts and also helping to secure new business.

The second level is Cyber Essentials Plus which is more of a thorough assessment of the organisation and includes an external vulnerability scan carried out by a certification body.

Timewade Ltd is an accredited Cyber Essentials Practitioner and can therefore provide guidance and help for businesses in readiness for Cyber Essentials. Timewade also work with a Cyber Essentials certified body.
