What does your role at Timewade involve?
“As the Senior Finance Manager at Timewade, I’m responsible for all the financial aspects of the company,” Mike begins. “This includes producing financial accounts, forecasting, and managing growth moving forward. I also handle customer invoices, ensure our suppliers are paid, and work closely with our management team to help them understand their finances.”
When did you first become interested in finance?
“My degree was in maths and finance, so I’ve always had an interest”.
“It’s a field that combines analytical skills with interpersonal communication. It’s definitely not all just numbers; you need to work well with people and understand their needs.”
How did you get into this role?
Mike’s journey into finance began with his love for mathematics. He pursued this passion through university, where he studied mathematics and finance. “It’s not just about numbers for me; I enjoy the problem-solving aspect and working with data,” he shares.
Before joining Timewade, Mike gained extensive experience in the field.
“I worked in an accounting practice for around ten years including becoming chartered with PKF Francis Clark. There, I worked with various businesses to produce their financial statements before later moving into Industry with Exeter Science Park and the MET Office.”
What’s next?
Looking ahead, Mike is enthusiastic about his career prospects. “I’m hoping to continue developing my skills, particularly in areas outside traditional finance,” he says. “I’m interested in management courses and other areas that can help me become a more well-rounded professional. It’s not just about finance anymore; having a broader skill set is really important.”
What makes Timewade a great place to work?
“We have a really great, close-knit team here. The atmosphere in the office is nice and relaxed, but we maintain a professional approach with our clients,” he says.

“There’s definitely room for learning and development,” he says. “I’m looking forward to potentially gaining new skills, even outside finance. Whether it’s management courses or other areas, Timewade supports our growth and development in multiple dimensions.”
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in finance?
“I would suggest trying to stay as broad as you can before specialising”.
“Learn the basics like invoicing and stock management. Once you have a solid foundation, you can find your niche. It’s important to develop a well-rounded skill set.”
