Josh joined Timewade’s service desk team in September and quickly became an essential part of the team. As an apprentice service desk analyst, he handles a variety of tasks each day, providing real-time support and solving user issues.
“My role involves managing tickets, taking calls from users, and following up on queries. One thing I really like is that anyone can take on any level of ticket. I get to learn from handling all sorts of challenges. If there’s a high-priority case, a senior member steps in, and I get to watch and learn how they handle it,” Josh said. “It’s a hands-on way of learning across all areas of IT support.”
How did you get into this role?
Josh’s interest in IT started back in college, where he completed a Level 3 BTEC in IT at Exeter College.
“In my first year, we covered everything from coding to data modelling, but by the second year, I was hooked on cyber security,” he explains. “It’s such a fascinating field. The work I did in college gave me a solid foundation for this role and the chance to apply what I learned in real scenarios at Timewade.”
When did you first become interested in technology?
While Josh’s initial career thoughts leaned toward architecture, his career path took a turn when he attended an IT open day.
“After that open day, I was hooked. IT just seemed like such an exciting field with so many directions you could go in. I thought, why not explore it?”
What makes Timewade a great place to work?
“When I first imagined an office job, I thought it would be really formal. But at Timewade, it’s relaxed and friendly. Everyone’s supportive and genuinely enjoys what they do, so there’s always a positive vibe.”
What’s the learning and development like at Timewade?
“Once I have completed my apprenticeship, I’ll complete Azure training. I’ve become very familiar with Azure, and I want to understand the platform better. Timewade has been supportive of helping me find the right training to grow my skills.”
What are you hoping to achieve in your future career?
“I’m aiming to get a well-rounded understanding of the industry first. I’ve also had the chance to watch our project specialists work on some big tasks, and it’s inspiring. Long term, I’d love to focus on cybersecurity, maybe even ethical hacking.”
What advice would you give to someone considering a career in tech and IT?
Josh highly recommends taking the apprenticeship route to anyone interested in tech.
“An apprenticeship is an amazing way to learn while earning. You get that hands-on experience that’s just invaluable, and it’s great to be part of such a future-focused industry. If you’re thinking about IT, go for it – now’s the perfect time to get involved.”
